Meet the Midwife

Leigh and Eric with their two girls
My name is Leigh Fransen and I am a South Carolina licensed midwife. I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and studied midwifery under Shari Daniels at the International School of Midwifery in Miami, Florida.
I am married to Eric Fransen. We have two little girls, one born naturally in a hospital with the help of two doulas, the second born in the water at a birth center with midwives. My family and I relocated to Fort Mill, South Carolina (just south of the NC border) in 2008.
As a midwife, I believe strongly in women educating themselves, making their own decisions, and taking charge of their health. I am there to provide support and intervene only when necessary or requested to do so. I am flexible as to the needs of individual mothers; some moms want me to be quiet and hands-off, and others want my close verbal guidance and physical support. Sometimes this changes minute by minute, and that is fine with me.
I provide care exclusively at Carolina Community Maternity Center, a birth center located just south of Charlotte in Fort Mill, SC. The dream of opening a birth center was the reason I moved to this area, and I could not be more pleased that this facility is helping the women of the Charlotte area achieve beautiful, natural births in a comfortable home-like setting.
